Theatrical ageing - creping of the skin on hands and face

When creating an aged look you can use different mediums; we used latex, make-up and collodion.

Firstly, I tested the latex effect, it was difficult, as I didn't know how to do it without creating an annoying edge!

After talking to Sue, she showed me a good way to blend the edges into the skin, just by rubbing the latex lightly on the edges. My example is below; I think the reason to why it isn't the best is due to how weary I was with the product, as I have never used latex before, I think it does give great results, but I don't think I will use this medium for my final Miss Havisham look.

I also experimented with bruising and cuts on this look as well. I need to work on my blending techniques and making sure that it looks life like. What I mean by this is making it look like its under the skin and not just thrown on top.

Latex:

Open wounds:

When I stated with the open wounds I used putty, rolled it into a long piece and placed it on the face and hand, with a spatula I blended the edges. once this was done I cut through the centre of the putty and picked up the edges to make the wound, then added the sealant. While I let that dry I mixed up a foundation to match the skin colour of the model. I applied this and then gradually built up a reddish bruise and then darker into the centre of the wound. I then added blood into the centre to make it look fresh and gross!

Make-up used:
Gaimas - putty
Supra colour palette -
509 - Yellow
079 - Dark red
Lila - Red
BL10 - Purple
Br42 - Green
FX - Blood

Bruising:

I had a look into bruising before I attempted again as I think I needed to actually look at how bruises are made in real life, here are some images and videos that show you how they are created that I found really helpful:

Kids one but it still helped!

My attempt at a leg bruise:

Make-up used: Supra colour palette -
509 - Yellow
079 - Dark red
Lila - Red
BL10 - Purple
Br42 - Green

I stated by making a yellowish skin town and patted this around the eye with my finger, I then stated to build on this with darker reds and a bit of purple on the inside of the eye. I then blended this all in with my finger and added a gloss to the top to make it look more fresh.

Make-up used: Supra colour palette -
509 - Yellow
079 - Dark red
Lila - Red
BL10 - Purple
Br42 - Green

Supra Colour:

This was more theatrical make-up, thinker brown lines to define the wrinkles, I struggled a bit as I have no lines on my forehead! which is great for when I am older, but when doing this look it made it harder!

When all the lines where marked out, I blended them in and with a stipple pad I dipped in red and added to look like veins on the cheeks. This was my scary old lady face!

Here is another attempt with a more grey look:

This look was also achieved with Supra colour, I wanted to have a gaunt look with a bit of yellow under the eye and tint to her skin to make it look like her skin was hanging onto her bone just like Dickens describes her.

On my face chart I made it so she has a reddish tint under her eyes to convey the fact she hasn't slept. I think I will use this in my final look for her but add powder to make it look like she is dusty herself.

Colodian:

This medium was great to show the effect of a burn on the skin, I wanted to show a raw nature to one side of her face. I used supra colour palette and also powder to give it an aged scar effect.

I had to look online at actual burn scars to get to grasp with the colouring, it really wasn't pleasant so I won't put them on here!
