Introduction To The Project - Victorian Gothic Horror

Within this new project we will be examining Gothic horror and Victorian beauty ideals.

We will also be researching on the reasons why the stories of Charles Dickens have been filmed more often than those of any other novelist and how they continue to bring his charters to life through make-up and hair designs.

Among other aspects of his writing, they are all well suited to the screen and show the clear definition of good and evil, and “the combination of social realism and the phantasmagorical, comedy and tragedy, and a cast of grotesques and eccentrics so colorful they’re God’s gift to character actors.”

With the initial brief, it will allow me to be creative and portray a colorful tribute to the master storyteller, and let the character through my findings take on a life of their own.

I’m going to go into detail of how we see the characters on screen and how we came to our design conclusions.

Also I will look at how we see the characters developing and how we feel they could be fleshed out in production through styling, make-up and hair design as well as their mannerisms, character traits and socio-economic background.

We are to also discuss how our overall character design will impact on viewing figures and potential audience bearing in mind the capability of High Definition Broadcasting.
